Now that the Xbox 360 Gears of War 2 has released and all the PS3 owners are left wanting, it’s time to cover everything that’s been going on in the Gears of War 2 realm. The reviews for 360 are in, pulling a Metacritic score of 93, which is nothing to scoff at. It’s only a single percentage point lower than the original Gears of War (94), which isn’t enough to make a difference really. And considering that Gears of War 2 had to maintain the insanely high expectations created by the first Gears of War, it’s surely selling smoothly.

Last time, we described some of the Gears of War 2 Midnight Launch Events that went down in a number of cities. This time we’ve tracked down a video of one Gears of War 2 release day event, so take a look-see for yourself:

Aside from that bit of fun stuff, we’ve also learned about Gears of War 2’s sales over its first week, which have racked up astoundingly swiftly. VGCharts.com put up a report that Gears of War 2 launched in the top spot (no duh on that part). Still, it seriously exceeded expectations, breaking a blistering 2 million sales in a less than a full week, putting Sony’s triple-A competition Resistance 2 in the dust heap, with the PS3 flagship title pulling a comparatively modest 304,958. Hey PS3 owners, what were you doing, cheating on your favorite system by getting in on the 360 launch? Don’t worry, we forgive you, since it doesn’t look like Gears of War 2 will be coming to the PlayStation 3 anytime soon, if at all.

We’ve also heard of a massively hardcore accomplishment: Gears Of War 2: Horde Wave 50 Completed On Insane. Gearheadsofwar.com, the self-proclaimed victors, said, “We started from Wave 1 on the ‘Day One’ map and whittled away at this for about three days. The dirty, dirty Horde didn’t stand a damn chance! Forget about throwing the kitchen sink at us, the Locusts threw the damn house! We have it all on film, baby!” If there ever does happen to be a PS3 version, we’d hope there would be a comparable trophy for that achievement…

The Gears of War 2 release date for Xbox 360 is tomorrow, 11/07/08 and some people will even be getting their copies tonight…

With everyone keeping their ears to the ground, website Gaming Bits cobbled together a comprehensive list of Gears of War 2 Developer Midnight Launch Events. Major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Bellvue, and London all getting in on the hooplay, but everywhere else won’t be missing out either, with merchants like Best Buy making sure people can get ahold of the game. If you happen to also have a 360 along with your PS3, you could do some investigating to find shops near you offering the game at midnight tonight, ushering in the Gears of War 2 release date

Hold on to your helmets, though, we’re blazing on by with more goodies like the first ten minutes of Gears of War 2 leaked on GameTrailers right here, take a gander:

Something to keep in mind if Gears of War 2 ever does hit the PS3 is GameCherry’s piece titled “Epic Gets Creative With GOW2 Resales”. It seems that five multiplayer maps from the original Gears of War are being made available for free withing Gears of War 2. However, these maps are only installable once, which a sneaky way to curb the increasing problem (at least in developers’ eyes) of used game sales. The only way for 360 owners to get the bonus Gears of War maps is with the purchase of a brand-new copy. Hmmm, suppose we’ll start seeing this in PS3 games?

We’ll still be keeping an eye out for any possibility of a PS3 version of Gears of War 2 so be sure to check back!

The Gears of War 2 360 release date approaches, but what about Gears of War 2 for the PS3? Well, amongst our bits of Gears of War 2 news and rumors there is something, which refers to our chances as “dismal”…

First off, we’ve heard from a random site that claims to have gotten a chance to learn What Multiplayer feels like in Gears of War 2. The site is called Gameguru.in, and they were heard saying (don’t blame us for the wonky construction): “There is no more sticking to walls, players can wall bounce but again it’s not as fast enough. They can also break out of their slide before going into cover, the party system very similar to Halo games made by Bungie.” Last time we checked, a Halo comparison is generally a good thing. Stealing from good competition, while retaining your own flavor is smart.

We’ll follow that with a little something known as Gears of War 2 Spoilers (Sort of), scribed by Chris Buffa of GameDaily, who starts it off with: “What Microsoft doesn’t want you to know about its big, bad sequel.” Beside “spoilers” there are some great shots. If only we could see that stuff in badass PS3 visuals!

And now we come to the news we’ve been dreading: CliffyB - Gears of War 2 “definitely not” Coming to PC. Okay, not so bad, right? Well… N4G had something to add: “Gameplayer spoke with Gears of War 2 lead designer CliffyB today and unearthed the info that unlike the original, there is no way the sequel will come to PC. He also mentions its dismal PS3 potential.” That’s our own bold in there. Look on the bright side: dismal is better than “definitely not happening”, right? Right? Sigh, our hopes for Gears of War 2 for PlayStation 3 seem to grow ever dimmer…

Don’t think we’re done yet! Make a swing by back here soon, as we’ll have lots more Gears of War 2 rumors and news!

This week we’ve got some more Gears of War 2 news and rumors in the hope that all this good stuff will one day make it to the PS3.

A cheapo Xbox 360 Gears of War 2 Limited Edition has surfaced. GameXtract said this about it: “I like getting my video games cheaper. Especially when I don’t have to wait for three months till everyone else doesn’t give a dam about the game. It looks like ToysRus is trying to get an upper hand on pre-orders this year with Gears of War 2. The limited edition is listed on the site for $59.99 instead of the regular $69.99 found at many other retailers.” While it’s no Gears of War 2 for PS3, it bodes well for those who also own a 360!

Also sneaking into the Gears of War 2 hype-scene are the Leaked Gears of War 2 multiplayer screenshots. Split-screen writes: “In order to refrain from spoilers another little piggy sent us the list of multiplayer maps and a couple of snaps, in case you are one of those who loves whispering Marcus Fenix into someone’s ears then its time to get those chainsaw’s outta here.” The images don’t exactly represent the true look of multiplayer, since they look like pictures from a camera pointed at a TV with the game playing on it. Trust us, the 360 really does look better than that!

Our final news blip passes along official words from Epic themselves (via CVG), following the announcement that the game is done: “After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we’ve created,” said design director Cliff Bleszinski. “This is Epic’s best work yet, and we can’t wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike.” November 7th needs to get here quick style!

Check back soon for more Gears of War 2 rumors and news!

We’ve dipped into our favorite source for Gears of War 2 news and rumors and pulled out the best tidbits from recent stories.

The Gears of War 2 Experience: E-Day Emergency Call is a marketing shtick designed to get people psyched up for the upcoming Gears of War 2 release date. Microsoft Game Studios has created a toll-free number you can call and leave a message as “a terrified Seran on Emergence Day.” The number is 1-800-598-6379. According to the folks at teamxbox.com: “Get your friends to help and let loose. Remember, it’s E-Day, so nobody’s seen a Locust or heard of Delta Squad before. And bonus points for keeping the language fairly clean. We will immortalize the best five entries on our site.” There are a few rules, so read up on the official post. Think you’ve got a good enough freaked-out voice? See if you can beat the other Gears of War 2 soldiers.

Next up: the strange (pointless?) Gears of War 2 Limited Edition Energy Drink. According to the people at ButtonMasher.com: “Microsoft and Demon Energy Drink are teaming up to run a promotion at the launch of Gears of War 2. The promo will include limited edition Demon Energy Drink cans and bottles as well as a competition to win the first copies of Gears of War 2 in the world.” Does Gears of War Two have any relation to energy drinks? Well it could be helpful for focusing if you want to be a Gears of War 2 sniper we guess, but what about potential nervousness? Frazzled nerves could work against you.

Lastly, British gamers got a “golden” opportunity: Gears 2 and replica gold lancer for £129. According to Xbox360Fanboy.com, “Not to be confused with the Gears of War 2 in-game gold plated Lancer, UK retailer gamestation is offering diehard fans the chance to own a replica gold painted Gears Lancer. The same toy Lancer that’s available exclusively on Amazon.com, but with a fancy gold paint scheme. If you’re interested in owning one of these bundles, you better start saving up already. The Gears of War 2 gold plated Lancer bundle (collector’s edition plus Lancer) will set you back a hefty £129.” Would you want to be the man (or lady) with the golden gun? Certainly the roster of Gears of War 2 toys has expanded. If you can’t get your hands on the gold lancer, there’s still the “traditional” replica. Apparently there are some really useful things you can accomplish with bread-and-butter of Gears of War 2 guns.

That’s it for now! Check back soon for more Gears of War 2 rumors and news!

Everyone action fan is feasting their eyeballs on any screens and siphoning up any information on the sequel to developer Epic Games’ “cover is king” brutal, gritty shooter Gears of War, especially the answer to the question that PlayStation 3 owners all want to know: is Gears of War 2 coming to the PS3? At this point it seems unlikely, considering that both Gears games are published by Microsoft, owner of the Xbox and bitter enemy of Sony, makers of the PS3.

Still, www.gearsofwar2ps3.com will be scooping up anything and everything related to Gears of War 2 news and rumors relating to any possibility of a PS3 version of the game. So far, the only ray of hope we have comes from an article almost a year old, in which industry analyst Michael Pachter told GameTrailers “we pretty much know that Gears of War 3 is probably gonna come out on PS3.” His reasoning was that Epic probably had only a two-game deal set up with Microsoft. Now, could that mean that Gears 2 could still come out on PS3 at a much later date? If contracts are renegotiated, perhaps it could happen, but don’t keep your hopes up.

Remember to check back for any updates, as we will be keeping an eye out for any changing conditions.
